About the Site

The SCORE Portal is an innovative nonprofit initiative that provides residents and residency programs with high-quality educational materials and a structured program for self-learning.

The portal brings together learning modules, textbooks, videos, self-assessment questions, and program-managed assignments so residents and faculty can work from a shared curriculum.

This placeholder page keeps the current public content available while the CMS is being created.

About SCORE

The Surgical Council on Resident Education, or SCORE, was formed to improve surgical trainee education and define a national curriculum for general surgery residency training.

SCORE began as a consortium of organizations involved in surgical education and now supports general surgery plus related specialty pathways through a shared educational portal.

The curriculum is organized around the competencies used in graduate medical education, including patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, professionalism, communication, practice-based learning, and systems-based practice.

Who We Are

SCORE is guided by surgical educators, program leaders, editors, content specialists, and technical staff who maintain the portal and its curriculum resources.

Editorial boards lead the peer-review process for SCORE content, and SCORE General Surgery also gathers input from trainees so the portal reflects how residents actually learn.

Founding Organizations

  • American Board of Surgery
  • American College of Surgeons
  • American Surgical Association
  • Association of Program Directors in Surgery
  • Association for Surgical Education
  • Surgery Review Committee of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  • Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons

Authors

SCORE content is authored and reviewed by subject matter experts across surgical education. Modules, questions, and learning resources are developed through an editorial process focused on accuracy, relevance, and usefulness for residency training.

Authorship information will eventually come from the CMS. For now, this section preserves the page location and explains the role of SCORE authors and reviewers.

Curriculum Outline

The SCORE Curriculum Outline defines topics to be covered in a surgical training program and gives programs a common structure for resident education.

SCORE's content is organized around modules and specialty pathways. Current offerings include General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, Complex General Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

This Week in SCORE provides a sequence of suggested topics and quizzes that programs can use to cover content over a recurring curriculum cycle.
